In celebration of Mother Nature's hardworking pollinators, Madre has partnered with Wildflower Boom to launch limited run of shirts that have been hand-dyed with natural, plant-based dyes from Oaxaca.
Proceeds from every shirt sold will support Bat Conservation International, a non-profit organization that creates programs to protect bats around the world. Specifically, the funds from this project will be directed to help support bat populations in Mexico that are vital to the pollination of agave plants, including those that Madre harvests to make its mezcal.
The 100% recycled cotton shirts (sourced from Everybody World) feature a screen-printed motif custom-designed by LAND that highlights the critical role that pollinators such as bees and butterflies play in sustaining our environment. In collaboration with Oaxaca's Casa Don Taurino, the shirts are hand-dyed using local Oaxacan plants, including wild-harvested marigold flowers, the skins of avocados and pomegranates, that are supported all by pollinators. Cochineal, a native natural dye of Oaxaca, was also used to create the vibrant orange hue.
Each shirt comes with a packet of pollinator seeds including Cosmos, Amaranth and Marigold, which match the color palette of the shirt and can be grown to create your own natural dye materials.
